Moving, Moving, Slowing Down

Hello! This month’s blog post is a bit more personal and reflective. I don’t really have much art to share at the moment, as I’ve been gearing up to get back into the swing of things. The past couple months have been a whirlwind of moving and moving and learning to slow down.

First things first, MOVING IS TOUGH. Putting your life into a bunch of boxes and having to leave the place you call home is not an easy task. We moved out of our New Jersey apartment, in a rush of tears and joy, to a new chapter in Houston, Texas. I’ve moved a few times, but NJ has always been home. Learning to adjust my expectations and go with the flow has been helpful. I miss my friends, family, familiar spaces and faces. I’m still thinking about when I can go back and try NJ food again.

But nevertheless, I’m grateful for a new opportunity to grow. I’m grateful for a new home. Grateful for the realization that I’m capable of more than I had previously believed.

This past month has also given me more perspective on my parents’ journey to America from the Philippines. Although my move hasn’t been as drastic, I can only imagine the changes they had to go through.

I’m constantly keeping in mind one of my art teacher’s wisdom and optimism, that this is a chance to find new ideas. And I really do hope they find me.

I hope you enjoyed some photos from our last few weeks in NJ.

So, how do you deal with change? How do you adapt to a new life?

In LOLO’S SARI-SARI STORE (which turns one year old in a few days!), when faced with a new, unfamiliar home, the main character recalled Lolo’s words: “Sari-sari means good variety - just look around and you’ll see. What can you do for your community?”

Until next time,

Christine

CARD ART CORNER

This month I’m sharing some of my favorite Yuka Morii cards (this is only part one)! She’s been making 3D Pokemon illustrations for several years. Her body of work is incredible, please take some time to look her up and check it out!
